Prez McCarthy Still Hasn’t Learned

It appears that SGA President Connor McCarthy still hasn’t learned that someone is looking out for unethical behavior. Hatin’ SGA received this email from a concerned student today regarding the application process for graduation speaker:

A close friend of mine applied for graduation speaker and wasn’t even given the opportunity to interview. While this is extremely disturbing what’s even more alarming is what has happened since. I have recently come to find out that one of Connor McCarthy’s sidekick Foundation Fellow cronies has been given special privileges throughout the process. After Connor’s first folly, I’ve heard that a particular Foundation Fellow was bragging about being able to skip the interview day and simply submit his best go around by video instead (as he sipped caramel lattes on his way to an interview at Harvard Medical School). Given his recent misstep, you’d think Connor would have learned to give equal consideration to all students, not an elite few.

Wow, just wow. Connor, have you not learned? Graduation speaker has always been a political decision made by a crony student government, but this crosses the line.

PS- The tipster even signed as “Hatin’ SGA”.  I love it!

I think you’re being too hard on Connor and the new administration. This tip is not well-sourced and the whole issue of favoritism might very well be resolved by a simple email. Even though this is a blog and not say, the fine institution of student journalism that is the Red and Black, I’d like to at least see that you tried to get the other side of the story and brought your concerns to the administration first. If you get rebuffed, then by all means please share it with the world, but I think it’s a good idea to at least say “emails were not returned” or something like that.

Seriously, your issue is that I didn’t ask Connor to comment on this? That is the beauty of a blog - he can get on here and respond himself to the allegations.

Also, to respond to “this tip is not well sourced,” I was able to verify what the tipster said, along with verifying who the tipster was. If you don’t want to believe this just because you don’t know who said it, then I believe you are one of the SGA cronies yourself.

    Strike Three???

So, it appears that Connor McCarthy and his “committee” plans to select the Spring speaker without even hearing all four speeches delivered. Please see the email below that references interview times. I find it interesting that the only name missing from interview sign-ups also happens to be the only “Foundation Fellow crony” (love it, Hatin’ SGA) being considered. I’ve heard that he was allowed to do an interview over the phone, not face-to-face and never even delivered his speech to the committee!! How does the committee decide on who they pick to deliver a speech to 30,000 people without even hearing it delivered? I’m sure won’t be surprised when the results are announced. Come on, guys…don’t be so predictably obvious with your political jockeying…
