More Elections Hilarity *UPDATE*

Elections Committee Chairman Jamarl Alexander GlennJamarl Glenn, SGA Senator (for the Public Health School), SGA Attorney General, and Elections Committee Chairman, is a member of the Facebook group called “I Hate SGA Elections Campaigns.” This is the description:

We are a group of people who get annoyed by all the flyers and Facebook messages talking about SGA campaigns. In addition to that, we fully disavow bonsai kittens 100%.

I love the irony of the Elections chairman apparently hating SGA elections.

And for when Senator Glenn leaves the group and then denies being a member, here’s a little proof for you:

Here's proof you sell out

You all may remember Jamarl Glenn, as he was a founder of the Black Tie Party, a group that wished to reform SGA and do more work for students (I am a founding member of the BTP). Jamarl ran for SPIA senator the election before last and lost. He later realized he couldn’t become a Senator in SGA without cheating, forgot the reforms he had previously advocated for, and picked up a Public Health school major to win a Senate seat that didn’t have any opposition. In case you are wondering, Glenn has yet to take any classes in the school which he represents in SGA Senate and in the University Council.

To add to Senator Glenn’s irony, in a letter to all those attempting to run in the SGA elections this year, he wrote:

No matter what the outcome of the election will be, remember the ideas and beliefs you ran for, and never give up on them. A true leader will keep to his beliefs regardless of what may come their way.

Too bad Jamarl doesn’t listen to his own advice.

For these reasons, I would like to award Senator Jamarl Glenn the Hatin’ SGA Senator of the Week Award.

Congratulations Senator Glenn, you’ve certainly earned it!

*UPDATE*

It appears that Senator Jamarl Glenn left the Facebook group after seeing he had been outed, and then thought better of it and rejoined the group.  Here is a screenshot (the yesterday is referring to Monday, November 21st):

Loser

I do believe I called it when I said earlier:

And for when Senator Glenn leaves the group and then denies being a member…

Nice try, Senator Glenn.  Next time, change your feed.

Why didn’t Jamarl run with the Black Tie Party last election? Y’all didn’t have a Public Health candidate. The rumor last fall was he wanted to be President… was there some kind of internal struggle that he lost?

Jamarl had several reasons for not running for President. The biggest was that he was concerned his father would be redeployed and he would have to leave UGA. He also didn’t want to put forth the effort to get elected. There was no struggle, but he would not have run under the BTP logo had he expressed some of his current opinions back then. Like I said in the post, Jamarl no longer believes in the student-friendly reforms he once advocated, and I question whether he ever really had those feelings in the first place.

I’d question your student-friendliness, November 20th, 2006 (the site owner). You claim to want some kind of cash flow sheet, but you never did it when it was your job to do it. Instead you resigned and let somebody else do the work so that you could complain on this website. I’d question whether your ranting comes from genuine concern for the student body or from some strange rivalry or grudge you hold.

(I doubt this will make it unedited to the comments section, but who knows?)

    Student,

All comments are posted unless they threaten myself or others, or use profanity beyond what I deem is necessary. You may believe otherwise, but I am rather fair and always post criticism of myself. Why give people like yourself the ammunition to fight me?

If this was a grudge or rivalry, this would have been way over before know. Let me tell you. I have had to deal with people threatening myself with physical harm, threats of lawsuits, the being called a terrorist (don’t ask, more legal stuff), and the threat of being kicked out of UGA. I am not doing this for some petty reason. Don’t question my student-friendliness.

I was not able to make an up-to-date balance sheet because I had no clue what the balance of SGA’s account was. People would sign contracts, purchase items, and charge printing (say, $1,600 at Kinko’s) to SGA’s account without informing myself or the Treasurer (and sometimes wouldn’t tell us for weeks!!!). I could not get the items needed to make a balance sheet, and I am still curious whether the balance sheet posted is actually comprehensive and up-to-date.

In Jamarl’s defense, now, he lists that he JOINED the group, and if you check the group site, he’s still a member. Perhaps he really does hate the campaigns…

SCE – That’s what I posted (and that’s what the screenshot says). I know he is currently a member. On Sunday he was a member, and sometime on Monday he “joined the group,” indicating he most likely left the group and rejoined.

  1. [...] I have a quite a few issues with this new Constitution, so I will be attending Senate, and I hope you will as well. Students must be vocal if they wish to be well represented, and now is the time to act. After a Senate approval, the student body will have to approve the new Constitution during the January student government elections, but fully expect the normal voting blocks to approve the new Constitution, just as they overwhelmingly continue to elect the same, well, type of people.
